It has been a long time sense I have updated this blog. I have been establishing a life in San Francisco and it has been all consuming. I have finally established a base here, and gotten the hang of the public transit. After only one stolen wallet and a few weeks without a place to live I consider myself initiated into the flow of the city rhythm. It has not been the easiest transition, but I believe a lot of growth has ensued and I can honestly say I am much more street savvy.
This is what I have been up to over the past 10 month. I will do my best to cut down on the words and simply show a few of the lessons in art I have had.
I took some very inspiring courses, one specifically {Perspective for Illustrators} taught by Steven Player, really has reshaped the way I approach my work. This was my first introduction to Photoshop and it has catapulted me into the exploration of new digital media. It was really helpful to be pushed to a breaking point and having to pass through the ring of fire.
Currently, I have the pleasure of taking a landscape painting course, which is finally pushing me into the exploration of the color theory I study a few semesters back. I am seeing a steep learning curve, but the results have been rewarding and the other students are lovely to grow with. One book that has supplemented my studies and I feel I can finally assimilate and apply to my work is James Gurney's Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter. I highly recommend this book to those who are going through transitions in their use of light and color and those looking for new inspiration. If you haven't yet check out his book Dinotopia I always find his images breathtaking.
